Small Group Reformer Class

Since opening our doors at the start of 2022 our Keperra Home Studio has steadily increased its client base for private lessons and classes. We purchased two more reformers and added small group reformer classes for up to three clients starting in January. Our 3-to-1 small group sessions are individually designed for hands-on corrections and teaching opportunities abound.

What is Pilates Reformer?

The Reformer (the name given to the entire platform and frame used in Reformer Pilates) is probably the most famous Pilates piece of equipment.

In Reformer Pilates, a frame called a "carriage" moves on wheels and is attached at one end by a series of springs that resist the movement of the platform. There are also foot bars and long straps that can be used on the legs and arms.

Reformer Pilates machines can be used in a variety of ways to promote strength, flexibility and balance. Most push or pull the platform against the resistance of springs to control backward movement or hold it in place. Exercises are performed while standing, sitting, kneeling or lying.

The device's versatility means that even the most experienced Pilates participant can continue to be challenged.

Is Mat Pilates as Good as Reformer Pilates?

Compared to mat Pilates, “the Reformer makes it easier to do more,” says Justin Rogers, brand director for Ten Health & Fitness. “The combination of adjustable spring resistance and the sliding platform allows the Reformer to create resistance or instability (or both), making exercises easier or harder”.

What are the Benefits of Reformer Pilates?

James Shaw, Frame's Pilates instructor, says, "It's an integrative method of training, so it's great for everyone. Reformer Pilates helps develop your entire body."

Like Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates Benefits Include:

  • Increased strength - especially around the core, back, glutes and thighs
  • Increased flexibility
  • Improve balance
  • Improve concentration
  • Improve coordination
  • Improve posture
  • Improves body alignment
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improves cardiovascular health
  • Focuses on stabilizing the muscles of the spine, so you can relieve back pain
  • Helps with weight loss when combined with a balanced diet

Does Reformer Pilates Also Have Mindful Benefits?

Reformer Pilates, unlike yoga, was not invented as a spiritual activity, but it is definitely mindful. Proven mental benefits include improved memory and reduced anxiety and depression.
